After the sheriff and co. leave, nothing out of the ordinary happens in the remainder of the afternoon. Night falls, and Stella takes first watch. After about an hour, she hears some noise coming from further out towards the entrance of the canyon. She can't tell exactly what it is, but something sounds like a horse.

"...There's no way the sheriff could return this quickly..." Stella thinks about conjuring a light to see what's approaching, but quickly reconsiders. I'd like to see what's coming, but I don't want to give away our position...

She attempts to discern what's coming.

As far as Stella can tell, something or some things seem to be moving toward your camp through the canyon. It doesn't sound like simply a wild animal, or group of animals, but she can't be completely sure.

Stella uses Ghost Sound to awaken her sleeping comrades. "Something's coming! Get ready!"

Michelangelo springs up out of his slumped seat, displacing his journal from his lap. "GR-

Realizing there is no sun to greet, he barely catches himself and covers his mouth before he bellows out their location.
He shrinks back down a bit into himself and whispers, "Ready. Yes. Greet the, intruder, is it?"
[still whispering] "Stella? Where comes it from, my child?" He looks around warily.

Michelangelo feels for his journal in the darkness, dusting it off and strapping it to his back. He looks around for Dominic for a moment before simply following Pyotr, regretting his choice not to wear his chainmail.

(Assuming you're trying to find a place where you can hide but be on the lookout)

You make your way to a small, rocky outcropping further toward the entrance to the canyon. As you round the corner and duck behind it, you can dimly make out some sort of light and several figures further ahead. You can't hear them, but they seem to be doing something with the light they're carrying, perhaps using it to signal to someone even further out.

The figures freeze for a second. Then the lantern drops to the ground and a shot rings out, whizzing overhead.

It is DARK out. Everyone has concealment, except for whatever unfortunate soul is being illuminated by the dropped lantern. Concealment gives a -2 penalty to Melee and Ranged (but not Area or Close) attack rolls. Stella, Pyotr and Michelangelo also have Cover in their current positions, which means attacks against them across the cover take an additional -2 penalty. Since Bandit 2 is illuminated, you can make out that he is carrying a sword and shield.

Stella hears the bullet fly off into the horizon before aiming her wand at the bandit illuminated by the lantern. Let's see how many more there are with some shock and awe...

First bolt: 1d20 = 19

Arc Lightning:

Second bolt: 1d20 = 1

Stella frowns as the second lightning bolt whizzes past one of the bandit's allies.
