Re: That night, and Mission Two
Stella's spell dispatches the bandit. As he falls, the other bandits break and run, heading back towards the canyon mouth. As they do, one of them withdraws a small tube from their belt and holds it up, firing a flare from it. Their comrade attacking Dominic, however, finds his escape quickly cut of by Pyotr. He drops his weapon and puts his hand up. As he does so, a might cracking noise rings out, followed quickly by another, and an explosion of rock at the other end of the canyon.
Stella recognizes the sound as being of an older artillery piece, launching cannonballs. They seem to be firing more or less blindly, and probably have to take a significant amount of time to reload.
(100 XP all around)

Re: That night, and Mission Two
Stella looks shellshocked as the cannon's fire rings across the canyon. The bastards have a cannon...it sounds like a pretty old piece. At least they don't have shells, or else we'd be in a lot more trouble. Since they don't know where exactly we are, they're probably trying to flush us out...so we shouldn't charge their position.

Pyotr charges the surrendering bandit and brings him down.

"Not many, not many, maybe five or ten including the cannon crew, the boss brought his dogs too!" squeals the bandit, "They've, uh, got a cannon, I swear I don't know any more about it!"
Re: That night, and Mission Two
The bandit looks at Pyotr.
"Yeah," he says slowly, deliberately pronouncing his words, "His dogs. Four legs. Barking. Fur. You know, dogs."

Re: That night, and Mission Two
Pyotr slams the bandit across the jaw, and says to him, "Drop the fucking attitude if you wanna live. Who the fuck brings dogs near a cannon?!"
He turns to Stella, Michelangelo and Dominic, except "turning" becomes more "wriggling aimlessly in the dark. "We need to get either the fuck away from the thing or we need to really fucking sprint toward it. Your move."

Michelangelo pinches his eyebrows and mutters to himself. "Are they really going to risk damaging the claim, just to clear out some temporary watchmen? For pity's sake, don't let them be that mercilessly stupid. Nyerrrgh why couldn't I have taken the tactics seminars instead of the voice lessons before they put me on the boat over"
He thinks quietly for a moment while healing everyone to full, then looks up. "I'd prefer to avoid retreat if possible, myself, given our charge over the area. I should hope to rout them with a lightning-fast counteroffensive. And if we must flee, I should like to at least see what we're running from with my own eyes. Wouldn't want to return with anything less than the better part of valor (and a convincing story)."

Stella looks up from her position lying on the ground. "Are you saying you want us to rush the enemy? That's exactly what they want us to do, why else do you think they're using cannonballs to try and flush us out!"

Re: That night, and Mission Two
Michelangelo deflates a little as he responds. "Erm, I mean.. yes, perhaps you may be right." He then continues to deflate a little.
After a moment, he perks back up even more than before. "Hold on, have any of you seen any more than one entrance to the canyon? I haven't. If there's none, is one cannon actually going to be of much use to them if we take up proper fortifications? A-and the sheriff said he would be back with robust reinforcements in a day's time, did he not? So if we hold that chokepoint of an entrance, perhaps we could find victory by simply holding out!"
By his grin, Michelangelo seems unfazed by the fact that this is basically the opposite of what he previously suggested.

Re: That night, and Mission Two
"Well it's not like heads wouldn't roll if we waited for reinforcements. But perhaps the two of you could put that energy to good use in relative safety if you're able to scale the canyon walls, get a look at what's actually out there?"
Michelangelo looks around to check just how scalable the walls are.
"Or would your preference be to peek out from the canyon entrance?
